I Take Risks
Did you try something that you weren't sure about as a part of this project?
Yes I did try something I was not sure of during this project. I wasn't sure how the texture of the palm tree would turn out. It was difficult to distinguish where they overlap and know where to cut lines in correct places to make the leaves look realistic. Also, I was not sure how the wave in the background would turn out. It was hard to show the curve and the shape of the wave, so it did not turn out like I wanted it to.
I Solve Problems
How did you respond to challenges that occurred as you worked?
Cutting out the linoleum was not perfect the first time. A lot of the lines were not deep enough so ink would fill in the lines. Then on the print the lines would not show up and it would look bad. As a result, I had to do a lot of test prints to see where needed to continue cutting. Also, the test prints helped to see where parts hadn't been cut out yet and as a result showed up on the print. Then I would go back and cut out those parts until I got the print how I wanted it.
We Collaborate
Did you ask another student for feedback during your work process?
Yes I did ask people at my table for advice and feedback when working. A lot of people at my table had used the linoleum and he linoleum cutters before, so they had more experience with it than I did. I asked for better ways to cut different shapes of lines, how to make the print come out neater, and how to judge if I had the right amount of ink on the linoleum. This helped my prints turn out the way I wanted them to.
