I Create Original Art
Did you use a source for inspiration, then combine it with your own ideas to make it original?
I used photos of cell different cell phones and cell phone towers from the Internet as inspiration, along with my own cell phone and preconceived ideas that I had about cell phones. The pictures that I got from the Internet combined with my original ideas aowed me to create a more interesting and complex drawing. Sources from the Internet helped me see more detail in the cell phones and then draw that detail. I would not have been able to make the drawing as detailed without the sources from the Internet. I combined the detail from the Internet with my original aspects like color, size, and location of the buildings in order to make my drawing original. The most difficult part was making sure not to copy the images exactly how they were and to incorporate my own original ideas into the drawing.
I Developed My Art Making Skills
Did you learn new techniques or processes as part of the work of the project?
I learned new drawing techniques in this project, the main one being how to draw in perspective. I learned how to draw in one point, two point, and three point persoective. Before actually learning, I had an idea how to draw by making vertical lines and horizontal lines in one point parallel, but I did not know how to really draw in perspective. The hardest part for me was drawing lines in the side walk and road going off into perspective. Getting the spacing and size of the lines correct was hard to get used to. I think I was good at good at giving the drawing more depth and making buildings over lap and look like they are farther away. I think two point was the easiest to draw in because all the lines that aren't vertical are always going to a vanishing point, so I did not have to think about which lines are horizontal and which go to the vanishing point in order to make he drawing look correct.
I Take Risks
Did you try something that you weren't sure about as a part of this project?
The main thing that I took a risk on was drawing a cylinder to look like a cell phone battery. I didn't really know how to draw a cylinder, and if the arcs aren't exactly the same then it would not look realistic. I also wanted to make it look transparent. The cylinder did not work out how I wanted it too. I think I drew it well, but it did not fit in with the rest of my city. If I did not try to make it look transparent, I think it would have looked better and fit in with the rest of the drawing. Another risk I took was drawing the cell phone tower over the city. I didn't know how realistic it would look or how well it would fit in, but I like how it turned out. I think it acts as a center piece for he drawing and really brings it all together, so I like how it ended up.
